Things to Do and See
Whitley Bay
Whitley Bay is a Victorian seaside town that boasts plenty of things to do and see for everyone. With award winning beaches, a busy high street, Park View Shopping and attractions such as St. Mary's Lighthouse, Whitley Bay Playhouse, the famous Spanish City and a large number of pubs and restaurants on your doorstep, you'll never be stuck for things to do.
The town has a thriving nightlife that is enjoyed by visitors from near and far: whether eating out, looking for entertainment or celebrating a special occasion, you'll find that Whitley Bay has lots to offer. It is a particularly popular venue for Stag and Hen nights!
Cullercoats, Tynemouth and North Tyneside
Just along the coast are the nearby towns of Cullercoats and Tynemouth where you'll be able to discover the spectacular ruins of Tynemouth Priory and the fascinating undersea world of Blue Reef Aquarium. The Land of Green Ginger in Tynemouth is a treasure trove of antiques, crafts and complementary therapies and the Metro station hosts markets every weekend. Tynemouth is a popular venue for surfing and, in October 2006, will host the O'neill British National Surfing Championship. Other local attractions include Royal Quays outlet shopping centre, Wet 'n' Wild waterpark and the Segedunum Roman Fort.
The North East of England
The excellent local transport links make Whitley Bay a great base from which to explore the surrounding area. Druridge Bay, Bamburgh and Holy Island are just up the coast and the county of Northumberland has attractions such as Alnwick castle and gardens and Hadrian's Wall. Beamish: The North of England Open Air Museum, Durham Cathedral and many other attractions are nearby.
